This is a very very old chest. My sister's
church had a garage sale about two weeks ago.
One of the members of her church had passed
away and left everything in the house to a
niece. It was full of old furniture.I just
had a fit over this chest. My sister is not
one to visualize anything, she only see's it
as it is.My first thought was to redo it, but
now I think I will leave it as it is. My
neighbor who loves old stuff thinks I should
leave it as is. I only paid $5.00 for it.
It was worth alot more than that. The house
was filled with so many pretty pieces of
furniture. Let me know what you think I
should do with it.
Thanks for sharing your thoughts!!!

I'm like your sister; I have no vision. I say if you like it, enjoy it.
We have one very similar to this that was my husband's grandfather's. Right now it's in the guest bedroom with a quilt on top, but I'd really like to put it in the den where others can see it...not sure how it would work as a coffee table because of the top not being flat, guess it doesn't have to be. I'd love your ideas too.
I think leave it the way it is. I think that's the beauty of it. Mama has a trunk similar to this she keeps Christmas ornaments in. It's a little lighter wood though. I don't know where hers came from. It's always nice to find a bargain.
WOW ONLY $5.00 FOR THAT BEAUTIFUL CHEST?!!! I'm one to leave old things the way they look. I love it that way and what memories it must have with it. Awesome!
I like it the way it is, it has character. I have a smaller chest on one of my coffee tables and it has a simple silk flower arrangement in it--just roses and greenery. I have also seen chests filled with beautiful quilts, and I like that look too. I'm sure whatever you do with it will be lovely.
